Understanding the Neuroscience of Trauma

This interactive eLearning course will engage TEI practitioners into critical reflection of how an understanding of the science behind trauma and its impact can frame the way services are delveired to clients who have experienced trauma.  We will explore the foundations of trauma, and why some people seem to be more impacted by trauma, even if it is the same traumatic experience, than others.

The aim of this eLearning course is to increase practitioner skills in managing clients who have a trauma background from a place of understanding and respect.

Learning Outcomes

This self-paced (60 Minutes) eLearning Course will enable you to:

  • Increase understanding of the science behind trauma.
  • Develop skills in identifying and assessing the impact of trauma on behaviours and presentations for children, young people and adults.
  • Increase awareness of the practice considerations that trauma understanding and awareness brings to your work.
  • Build skills in distinguishing between the descriptors of behaviours (ADHD, ODD etc) and the cause of trauma.

Target Audience 

The Target Audience for this course is all practitioners supporting vulnerable and at-risk children and their families. It is especially relevant for workers employed by Service Providers who are funded by the Department of Communities and Justice, under the Targeted Earlier Intervention (TEI) program.
