On the Run (Accidental) Counselling

Do you find yourself in counselling situations by accident  – being in the “front line” responding to clients or co-workers experiencing strong emotions? But You are not a trained counsellor!!

Join this in-person workshop, to be facilitated by Mirna Tarabay, to equip yourself with basic skills and effective intervention strategies and tools to better assist people (client or co-worker) in challenging situations and experiencing strong emotions. In times of distress, it is important to remember that you do not need to be a formally trained counsellor to make a positive difference to those in need.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand the roles and responsibilities of an Accidental Counsellor and the importance of setting boundaries.
  • Develop appropriate skills and intervention strategies and tools to respond to people who are distressed.
  • Understand the stressors that people may be facing when experiencing challenging situations and build on effective communication and response skills
  • Feel more confident and certain in how to best respond to the person (client or co-worker) in need.

Facilitator

MIRNA TARABAY is a Psychotherapist, trainer and supervisor. She began her career as a teacher and after 6 years of working in the school system in Sydney, she began a career of working with survivors of trauma, abuse and loss .Mirna has worked in a range of capacities primarily with survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse, both adults and children.
