Journey of Resilience (For Aboriginal workers only)

This workshop explores the complexities that can exist between the organisation you work for and your own cultural identity. This will help you to walk and work in two worlds, and to meet your client responsibilities without losing yourself through institutional bureaucracy.

Journey of Resilience is designed to assist Aboriginal workers to problem solve and develop strategies to affect change within organisations, challenge institutional unhealthy practice and create solutions that enhance the workers role with full support from the organisation.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Increased awareness of organisation construct that are not culturally safe or considerate;
  • Increased appreciation/understanding of Institutional Racism and its implementation;
  • Develop strategies to challenge system and change practice, and
  • Develop strategies to achieve goals to maintain self-care.

 

Who should attend this workshop?

This workshop is open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Family and/or Community Workers whose role is to support Aboriginal children and their families in Western Sydney.

Facilitator

Ivan Clarke has many years of experience as a counsellor, clinical & educational consultant, and group leader in the Strong Aboriginal Men’s Program. Ivan was the Senior Aboriginal counsellor with Link-Up NSW, specialising in supporting stolen generation clients with alcohol and other drug issues, trauma, grief and loss, dual diagnosis and mental health issues. In the last 10 years Ivan has worked in the social welfare/counselling field at the WHO’S Rehabilitation facility, Foundation House and the Salvation Army Foster House. Ivan has been a Consultant to QANTAS in Mentoring and Leadership, Yulara Resort Uluru and numerous Corporate services in addressing RAPS and Aboriginal Engagement. Ivan is the Team program designer for Men’s Programs at ECAV and is the CEO of his Company Wiimpatja Training, Skills Development and Consultancy.
