Guiding Children’s Behaviour

One of the most effective approach to working with young children that reflects the deepest values of early childhood education and care: practical strategies that meet children’s needs and safeguard the rights of surrounding adults and children

Dr Louise Porter will compare and contrast two styles of parenting: controlling discipline and a guidance approach. This mindset shifting workshop will –

      • change the way you see children’s behaviour
      • inspire you to implement a guidance approach to understanding and supporting children’s behaviour
      • give you skills to guide children’s behaviour
      • provide practical strategies to impart these skills to parents.

Learning Outcomes:

  • understand the differences between guidance versus behaviourist (or controlling) beliefs and values;
  • appreciate how to prevent children’s distress by making expectations achievable for them;
  • understand how to meet children’s emotional needs;
  • understand the nature of self-esteem;
  • grasp the differences between praise versus acknowledgment
  • learn some methods for responding to children during a lapse of self-regulation, and
  • anticipate some of parents’ objections and questions and how to address these.
