Effective Engagement with Aboriginal Clients

This interactive eLearning has been developed for LEAD Professional Development by a highly respected Aboriginal consultant and is designed to help non-Aboriginal people to build respectful relationships with Aboriginal peoples.  In order to enable services to be delivered to Aboriginal individuals, families and communities in a culturally appropriate way, knowledge, understanding and respect of Aboriginal culture is essential. Better client outcomes for Aboriginal peoples can be achieved when service delivery incorporates a holistic and cultural appropriate approach.

Learning Outcomes

During this self-pace eLearning course participants will explore strategies and recommendations that will enable them to:

  • Build trust
  • Conduct respectful introductions
  • Address Elders and older Aboriginal peoples appropriately
  • Build skills and knowledge
  • Reflect on their own attitudes
  • Understand cultural protocols and how to use cultural appropriate terminology

Target Audience 

This eLearning course is for Non-Aboriginal Professionals including managers, team leaders, individual and peers support workers, caseworkers, counsellors, social workers, community development workers and other practitioners who provide services to Aboriginal clients.
