Collective Care, Solidarity & The Zone of Fabulousness

Vikki will differentiate Vicarious Trauma and Burn Out from the Spiritual and ethical pain that our work engenders when we are unable to provide dignity and social justice with the people we want to be useful to. We’ll explore our relationship to a believed-in-hope, and resisting patronizing self-care prescriptions to workers.

                We will also consider a frame for Resisting Burn Out that embraces Collective Care that holds clients at the centre, based on how we treat people, and resist pathologising ourselves and other workers as mentally ill and deficient…and that’s going to bring us to The Zone of Fabulousness….Where we resist enmeshment and disconnection, and connection, collective ethics and the person at the centre of our work.

 Learning Outcomes:

  • Critique and Analysis of pathologizing workers with Vicarious Trauma;
  • Alternative understandings of Clients Centered approaches to Collective Care;
  • Strategies for Solidarity Teams and Mutual Aid, and
  • Visions of Vicarious resistance and possibility of transformation.

Acknowledgement

LEAD acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land we gather and work on, and the land that you are on while visiting our website. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging, for they hold the memories, the traditions, the cultures and hopes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples across the nation. A better understanding and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures develops an enriched appreciation for Australia’s cultural heritage and can lead to reconciliation. This is essential to the maturity of Australia as a nation and fundamental to the development of an Australian identity. Understanding and respect are guiding principles of LEAD’s Reconciliation Action Plan.
