Adolescents, Alcohol and other Drugs (AOD): the myths, the truths and what young people want to talk about

This Online Workshop will provide you with the opportunity to engage and be a part of an informative and experiential/ interactive session on young people and AOD. This session will include discussions, information and activities that focus on young people, AOD, risk-taking behaviour and crisis situations. We will explore how we can best support young people, focusing particularly on ways in which we can best communicate with them through these years of experimentation and risk-taking. We will also discuss the vulnerability of our youth in relation to AOD due to advertising and cultural norms. It is important that we, as professionals, understand and appreciate the landscape in which young people are growing up.

 REGISTER NOW! PLACES ARE STRICTLY LIMITED TO ENSURE THAT YOU EXPERIENCE A HIGH LEVEL OF ENGAGEMENT AND INTERACTIVITY.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand the current alcohol and other drugs trends amongst young people;
  • Understand about risk-taking behaviour and crisis situations young people find themselves in; and
  • Develop conversations and communications skills that support young people as they navigate AOD.

Acknowledgement

LEAD acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land we gather and work on, and the land that you are on while visiting our website. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging, for they hold the memories, the traditions, the cultures and hopes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples across the nation. A better understanding and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures develops an enriched appreciation for Australia’s cultural heritage and can lead to reconciliation. This is essential to the maturity of Australia as a nation and fundamental to the development of an Australian identity. Understanding and respect are guiding principles of LEAD’s Reconciliation Action Plan.
