Before the start of the ‘silly season’, as the Christmas shutdown and last-minute flourish of activities is better known as, it is Annual General Meeting (AGM) time for most for-profit organisations. LEAD got in early to beat the rush and held our 35th AGM last week. Our very special Guest Speaker was Mr Ken Zulumovski Hon DHSc – a descendant of the Kabi Kabi nation. Ken is passionate about, and proactively engaged in, high-level advocacy for Aboriginal communities to improve mental health, access to justice and reducing incarceration rates by creating links between legal, healing, health and community services. Ken’s presentation on Makarrata (a word in the Yolngu language meaning a coming together after a struggle, facing the facts of wrongs and living again in peace) was thought provoking and timely.

We were also pleased to have Valerie Karim, our Commissioning & Planning Officer from Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) in attendance.

LEAD took the opportunity to thank the board of Directors for their on-going support and guidance. Without their commitment LEAD would not be the innovative and forward-thinking organisation that it is.

Team LEAD is a small group of enthusiastic and dedicated workers working collaboratively with our stakeholders to improve outcomes for vulnerable children, youth, families & communities. It is a privilege to be the spokesperson and leader of this inspiring team, and all that 2020 will bring.
