On Friday, 13 February 2015, over 350 Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people came together for Apology Day at Muru Mittigar!

The Apology to Australia’s Aboriginal Peoples was delivered by then Prime Minister Kevin Rudd on February 13, 2008, and acknowledged in particular the Stolen Generations. The significance of the Apology is enormous – for many the Apology represented a public admission of the governments responsibility for the trauma, loss and separation from family, community, culture and land that the Stolen Generations have experienced, and represents an important stage of the journey of healing.

It was amazing to see double the number of attendees this year. There were over 40 stalls, children’s activities, a smoking ceremony by Uncle Wes, workshops and many attendees participated in creating a Healing tree. Attendees also had the opportunity to listen to stories past and present from Local Elders and community members. We would like to thank the The Healing Foundation for funding this event, a partnership between FWT+DP and Muru Mittigar.
